만석은 수구문 밖 백정촌에 사는 망나니로 나라의 정변이 일어날 때마다 많은 사람의 목을 친다. 어느날 대가집 하인이 찾아와 부탁을 한다. 내일 자기네 상전을 칼등으로만 쳐서 깨끗한 시신을 만들어 달라는 부탁이었다. 이에 이백냥에 흥정을 끝냈고, 그날 밤 돈을 들고 찾아 온 사람은 대가집 딸인 숙영이라는 아름다운 여인이었다. 그날 밤 만석은 그녀를 무참히 유린한다. 만석은 양반들에 대한 원한이 있는 터였다. 그뒤 그는 약속대로 그녀의 부친을 칼등으로만 쳐서 곱게 죽게 만든다. 그후 숙영은 아버지의 시신을 찾으러갔다가 나졸들에게 붙잡혀, 강대감댁에 인도되고, 거기서 다시 어머니와 함께 종문서를 만들어 팔려가기에 이른다. 한편 만석은 숙영의 애처로운 소식을 듣고, 숙영에게 했던... It's the 1800s, Mansuk lives in a village on the outskirts of Seoul as a butcher; but his main job is beheading those sentenced to death. Whenever political strife erupts, he's kept busy. The servant of a rich man pays Mansuk to behead his master efficiently. Mansuk violently rapes the beautiful daughter of the rich man who's to be executed. Eventually they live happily together but then another revolution happens.
